Dr. Isabel Varela-Nieto receives the Honor Plaque from the Spanish Association of Scientists

Prof. Isabel Varela-Nieto, group leader of the Neuropathology of Hearing and Myelinopathies research group at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas, Alberto Sols, IIBM (CSIC-UAM), has been awarded with the "Honor plaque" of the Spanish Association of Scientists (AEC), a distinction that this association delivers annually to scientists, entities and companies for their contributions to the development of knowledge in various fields.

Professor Varela-Nieto receives this award for her scientific contributions to the characterization of the embryonic development of the inner ear and to the bases of sensorineural syndromic hearing loss, which have provided potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets, as well as for her management activities, in particular in the Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM).

The ceremony of the XXIV Edition AEC Honor Plaques will take place on Thursday, November 24, 2022 in the Rectorate and Social Council of the Miguel Hernández University (Elche, Alicante). The presentation will be given by Dr. Enrique J. de la Rosa, Director of the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas, Margarita Salas (CSIC) and first vice-president of the AEC.

From our Institute, we congratulate Isabel Varela-Nieto for this prestigious and well-deserved award from the AEC, thanks to her excellent career during so many years of work. It is an honor for the IIBM to have a researcher like Isabel.
