Sandra Franco Caspueñas and Laura Doblado Bueno have been awarded at the 45th SEBBM Congress

Sandra Franco Caspueñas, PhD student in the laboratory of Dr. Isabel Varela Nieto (Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Sols-Morreale, IIBM (CSIC-UAM) and U761 CIBERER) has been awarded at the 45th Congress of the Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM), which took place from September 5 to 8 in Zaragoza, Spain.

Sandra received the BBVA-SEBBM Young Researchers Award in the "Cellular Senescence" group for the best young communication for her work "Induction of cellular senescence and senolysis as a potential strategy for vestibular schwannomas", presented in lecture and poster format. Sandra is carring out her doctoral thesis in the Neuropathology of Hearing and Myelinopathies Group under the direction of Dr. Isabel Varela Nieto and Dr. Ana María Jiménez Lara, together with Dr. Luis Lassaletta Atienza of the Otorhinolaryngology Service (Hospital Universitario La Paz).

Laura Doblado Bueno, PhD student in the laboratory of Dr. María Monsalve at the IIBM, has received the Social Networks Award. The SEBBM rewards the youngest researchers for the dissemination of their work in social networks during the congress. Laura is conducting her PhD thesis about the mitochondrial dysfunction produced by second generation antipsychotics (SGAs) and its impact on cardiovascular health. This work is led by Dr. Monsalve of the Mitochondrial Function in Health and Disease group.

The 45th SEBBM Congress was attended by more than 700 researchers who were divided into 16 thematic research groups. Sandra's lecture, who participated in the "Cellular Senescence" group, was selected as the best young conference. Laura, part of the group "Mitochondria, cell communication and oxidative stress" was awarded for the impact of her poster in the social network X.

The IIBM congratulates both Sandra and Laura and their respective groups for this amazing work, congratulations!
