Commemorative Concert "50 years researching cancer"

Guillermo de Cárcer, from the Department of Cancer Biology of the IIBM (CSIC-UAM) has participated in a press conference to present the outstanding closing concert of the 50th Anniversary of the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer.

This concert commemorates the 50 years that the Association has been promoting cancer research and working to ensure that cancer is equal for all people and that all types of cancer are investigated.

The commemorative concert "50 years researching cancer" will be held on September 16 at the National Auditorium of Music in Madrid with the National Orchestra of Spain. It will be the culmination of a series of concerts that have celebrated the commitment to cancer research of the Spanish Association Against Cancer for 50 years.

Dr. Guillermo de Cárcer has had the honor of being the researcher who has been selected to participate in the presentation of this commemorative concert. Guillermo received a Grant from the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Guillermo tells us: "the Grant I was awarded contributed considerably to set up my laboratory and enlarge my research group at the IIBM, that is why I am very grateful to the Spanish Association Against Cancer ".

The event was also attended by Félix Palomero, technical director of the National Orchestra and Choir of Spain and Ramón Reyes, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer. Ramón Reyes in his speech thanked the organization of events such as this concert, to help raise funds and thus achieve the goal of the Association: to increase cancer survival by 70% and improve the quality of life of people with cancer. He also stressed the importance of continuing to raise funds because there is a lot of inequality in cancer that affects research, since there are tumors with low survival and rare tumors that need more research to increase the survival rates of these cancers.

For his turn, Dr. Guillermo de Cárcer emphasized "the need to keep betting on research to guarantee stability in the scientific career and the continuity of research in oncology, which is what makes it possible to achieve great advances.
