- The IIBM, together with 9 CSIC centers at the Cantoblanco Campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, participates in the European Researchers' Night in a big event in the center of Madrid
- The event features live experimental demonstrations, workshops and a gymkhana about relevant women scientists in history. This year, a scientific monologue show will be added to the usual program
The ten centers of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas at the Cantoblanco campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid are joining the European Researchers' Night with a science fair and monologue contest at Espacio Fundación Telefónica in the heart of Madrid. The event will take place on Friday 27 September, will be for all audiences and will be completely free of charge.
Every year researchers leave the laboratory to get closer to the city, and this time they will be in one of the most emblematic buildings in Madrid: Espacio Fundación Telefónica, located in one of the busiest areas of the capital and already known for its activities and technological exhibitions. We will take our experiments there to show our science at the streets.
Thus, anyone who comes to Espacio Fundación Telefónica during the afternoon of September 27 can enjoy, free of charge, demonstrations and workshops on topics as diverse as materials science, theoretical physics, mathematics, food science, biomedicine or nanoscience. The gender perspective will play a special role thanks to the famous 'Escape Road: in search of Nobel and non-Nobel women', and this year comedy will be added to the 'menu', with two performances of a fun scientific monologue contest in which the audience will decide the best performance.
In the morning, between 11 a.m. and 1.30 p.m., primary and secondary school students (who must request a reservation from September 16) will be welcomed to enjoy a guided tour of several 'stalls' with scientific experiments, as well as a gymkhana of great scientists.
What is the universe of cells like? What are the secrets of light? Is it possible to extract our DNA... and wear it around our necks? What about food? Is it really possible to train X-ray vision? What do ceramics and glass hide? How can magnetism cure diseases? Can sound be seen? And, most importantly, can all this really be fun, or even funny? All this, and much more, will be answered in interesting and interactive workshops for all ages, with experts in popular science as exceptional guides to learn the secrets of the world around us.
The Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas, Sols-Morreale (IIBM) will present three scientific workshops on the afternoon of the 27th. The researchers Soledad Bárez López, Cristina Peña Maroto and Belén Peral will be in charge of approaching science to the general public. You can download the offer of all the activities of the afternoon shift HERE. David Albandea Rodríguez, Arturo González de la Aleja and María Monsalve will perform in the funny monologue contest. To get an idea of the quality of our monologuists we present this video (David and Arturo included).
