The European Society of Human Genetics awards Asier Iturrate

Award for the best poster in clinical research for the team of Dr. Víctor Ruiz of the IIBM

Asier Iturrate Soleto, PhD student in the laboratory of Dr. Victor Ruiz, has been awarded at the European Congress of Human Genetics (ESHG2023), which took place between 10 and 13 June in the city of Glasgow, UK. Asier was awarded the prize for Best Poster in Clinical Research among the 30 candidate posters and was invited to present his work "Recessive mutations in SCNM1 are a new cause of Orofaciodigital syndrome due to errors in minor intron splicing affecting primary cilia" in a 3-minute oral presentation in the Best Poster session, followed by a poster discussion with the evaluation committee.

The European Congress of Human Genetics was attended by more than 4700 researchers and clinicians specializing in Human Genetics, and around 1000 other participants attended online. The event presented the latest advances on numerous topics related to basic and clinical research in Human Genetics. A total of 1200 posters were displayed at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow. The ESHG scientific evaluation committee selected the 30 best papers presented by young researchers (PhD students, or PhDs with no more than 4 years of postdoctoral experience) for the Early Career Poster Award.

Asier Iturrate is doing his PhD Thesis in the Human Genetics and Molecular Pathology group of the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Alberto Sols, IIBM (CSIC-UAM) and U760 CIBERER directed by Dr. Víctor Luis Ruiz-Pérez. This work is the result of the collaboration of Dr. Victor Ruiz's group with national and international clinical laboratories. In addition, this work has been published in the American Journal of Human Genetics journal.
