Therapy, Brain Response & Imaging

THERABRAIN is led by Dr. Jesús Pacheco Torres, a scientist specialized in advanced molecular imaging, tumor metabolism, and neuro-oncology. With an international background that combines training in Spain and the United States, Dr. Pacheco Torres has developed expertise in multimodal imaging and therapy response, which forms the foundation of the group’s research identity.

Therabrain is dedicated to exploring how the brain and tumors respond to therapies, using imaging technologies as powerful tools to understand these processes at both the molecular and functional level. Our research is driven by the belief that non-invasive imaging can unlock critical information about how diseases progress and how treatments can be optimized for each individual.

A key focus of the group is the study of tumor metabolism and its role in therapy resistance. We investigate how brain tumors adapt to different treatments and how these adaptations can be detected through imaging biomarkers. This work aims to support the development of more personalized and effective therapeutic strategies, particularly for aggressive cancers such as glioblastoma.

We are also committed to advancing personalized medicine in oncology through non-invasive imaging methods. By developing biomarkers that can predict how each tumor will respond to therapy, we aim to tailor treatments to the specific characteristics of each patient. This approach has the potential to improve therapeutic outcomes, minimize unnecessary side effects, and move closer to truly individualized cancer care.

In addition, we are interested in how lifestyle factors, such as physical exercise, influence brain health and disease progression. By applying advanced imaging techniques, we study the neuroprotective effects of exercise and its potential to improve therapeutic responses in both oncological and neurological conditions.

Another central pillar of Therabrain is the development of multimodal imaging approaches. We integrate Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET), and mass spectrometry imaging to obtain complementary information about biological processes. This combination provides a more complete picture of the brain and tumor microenvironment, helping to capture disease heterogeneity and supporting the path towards precision medicine.

THERABRAIN brings together expertise in imaging, molecular biology, and therapy response to address pressing biomedical challenges. Our goal is to generate knowledge that not only advances scientific understanding but also contributes to the development of innovative diagnostic tools and therapeutic strategies that benefit patients and society.
