1st SEMOC Microscopic Images Contest
- The Optical and Confocal Microscopy Service of the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas Sols-Morreale (IIBM), CSIC-UAM, launched the 1st Microscopic Images Contest several months ago, and this was the message they sent:
“Sometimes, while you’re doing research with the microscope, you come across photos that are pure magic. They have an unexpected beauty that grabs you instantly. It’s as if science were saying: ‘Hey, stop for a moment, there’s art here.’ These images have the power to pull us out of our work loop and encourage us to dream a little.
Any researcher who has spent hours glued to the eyepiece knows exactly what we’re talking about. Suddenly, bam!, that image appears. Because of its colors, shapes or overall aesthetics, you forget about the data and start seeing something different.
And what do we usually do with them? Well, they normally end up in the digital trash or stored in a “curiosities” folder so as not to distract from what’s important.
But that’s over! The idea for this contest was born precisely from this: from wanting to rescue these visual gems and celebrate the exact point where science merges with art. Join in and take part!”
We include here: Bases del I Concurso Imágenes Microscópicas so that you are prepared for the 2nd SEMOC Microscopic Images Contest
